Setting up to-go sales on BeerMenus

Use this help doc to set up your BeerMenus to-go sale in just a three simple steps.

Step 0: Add your business to BeerMenus

If you're reading this, chances are you already have a BeerMenus page. if you don’t, create a page for your business to get started. 

Step 1: Set up your to-go sale logistics

From your update menu page (the page where you add/remove items from your menu) click on the “Sell” tab:


Fill in the fields re: selling to-go:

And then check the box beneath the “Enable buying” section:


As noted in the text above the checkbox, there’s no need to worry about something hugely consequential happening when you click this box—doing so won’t all of a sudden make all the items on your BeerMenus page available for purchase. This is basically just a "kill switch" that makes the next few setup steps possible. (And also allows you to easily turn off to-go sales if you’d like.)

The last piece on this page is “Enable sales tax collection":


By entering a number here, sales tax will automatically be applied to transactions. So, for example, if you enter 10% here and a customer purchases items that bring the pre-tax total to $12, the additional tax applied to the order will be $1.20. 

Here’s an example of how it will look to your customers as they purchase:

As noted on the Sell page, this sales tax money will still flow to you, so you’ll be responsible for filing sales tax on BeerMenus orders.

After you fill out all this information, press the big blue “Save” button:

Step 2: Connect your bank account to Stripe (so you can get paid!)

At the top of the same page you’ll see a tan banner. Click the blue button that says “Connect Stripe”:


You may have heard of Stripe before. In a word, they’re a very well known online payment processor. They’ll be processing the payments for your to-go sales.

Once you click the button, you’ll be brought to a page on Stripe where you create a Stripe account by providing information about your business and bank account information.

As soon as you create your Stripe account, you’ll be brought back to the Sell page on BeerMenus.

At this point you’ll be done with the under-the-hood part of setup. You’re ready to start selling. All that’s left is Step 3.

Step 3: “Opt-in” the products you want to sell on BeerMenus

There are two routes here, both of them easy.

Route 1: Enable buying for products already listed on your BeerMenus page

Click the “Menu” tab, which will bring you over to your Update Menu page:


Next, scroll down to the menu section of the page and locate an item that you want to sell to-go. Click the “Edit” button associated with that item:


This enables you to edit all the information about the beer and the serving:


To make this beer available for purchase, just check the box next to “Sell this item on BeerMenus”:


You also need to input a quantity available here, so that you don’t accidentally oversell:


While you’re here, this is also a good time to revisit pricing for this item. You can read more about how to think about pricing in this Frequently Asked Questions document.

Just repeat this process for each item you want to sell on BeerMenus.

Route 2: enable buying on new items

This approach is simple. Just begin adding a beer as you normally would. First, you start typing the name of the beer you want to add. If you’re adding a beer, wine, or spirit, the item you’re looking for will appear in the dropdown, so select it there:


Add the rest of the information about this beer, making sure to check the “Sell this item on BeerMenus” checkbox:


Click “Add to menu" and you're done.

Just repeat that process for all the items you want to add to your page to sell on BeerMenus.

Once you get to this point, you’re officially selling to-go on BeerMenus. Nice going!

That means the next step is making sure your customers get to your BeerMenus page so they can buy from you. 

For that, we turn to Promotion. 

Promotion on BeerMenus

As soon as your to-go sale goes live there’s a ton of automatic promotion that gets kicked off within the BeerMenus universe. Here are all the ways you get automatically promoted on BeerMenus.

On your BeerMenus page:

How else can I promote my to-go sales on BeerMenus?

Easy: share the link to your BeerMenus page everywhere you can to let your customers know they can buy to-go straight from your BeerMenus page.

As with driving sales on services like DoorDash, GrubHub, and others, it’s important for you to share the link to your BeerMenus page on social media, on your website, and elsewhere.

While the automatic marketing boost you get from BeerMenus is levels above what you get those services and others like them (unless you want to pay an arm and a leg for their “marketing boosts”), you still need to put in some effort to spread the word to your audience for your BeerMenus to-go sale to be a success.
